We had our family pictures taken this weekend, and I can’t wait to see how they turned out – Noemi from Noemi Photography always does an amazing job. Plus, my kids behaved themselves beautifully – I couldn’t have asked for more from them.
It’s a lot of work to find the perfect outfits for the entire family, and it got me thinking… If it’s difficult for me – someone who loves all things sartorial – to figure out how to dress us for a photo shoot, I know there must be some people who dread the process.
Want to know the key to dressing for a family picture? Instead of buying the same outfit for everyone (oh my goodness, we have an old family pic from my youth where we’re all wearing denim button downs!), decide on an over all color scheme, and work from there. We did shades of gray and black with pops of pinks and corals. No one matched, but we all fit together.
My sister-in-law, a fantastic photographer based out of Plymouth, WI, often posts outfit ideas on her blog – you can find an example here. They’re a great way to get some shopping inspiration before the big day.
I’m in love with the way the families below look like they belong together, but each ensemble has its own personality, letting each individual shine.
