My Kind of Town

I just got back from a week away. We visited family and friends in Chicago, and made a stop along the way at the Wisconsin Dells.

Side note: while I was thrilled to see my kids having such a blast (and they had a serious blast!), the Dells grosses me out. Don’t get me wrong, the accommodations are nice. But the thought of all that water dripping off scuzzy bodies had me on edge the entire time. Anyone else ever feel that way at water parks?

But it was a really lovely trip, with trips into the city and lots of hours spent in the pool at Papa and Grammy’s house. I got to catch up with friends at brunch in Wicker Park, and took in a ballgame at US Cellular (sadly, the White Sox lost). We spent time with extended family we rarely see, and got to hang out with two sets of grandparents. I sported crazy vacation hair the entire time, and wore a swim suit more than anything else. Plus, we only had one bout of carsickness the entire trip! All in all, our trip was a success.

Are you traveling anywhere fun this summer?

  • So, you met several of our shop friends in our post last week. But we just couldn’t wait to introduce you to some more. Because, oh my goodness, they’re all so fabulous! First up on round two is Heidi, of Vintage Pyro. You’ve probably come across these incredible candles at our last Pop Up Shop,… [Continue Reading]

  • I recently went to a soup cook off, and knew I needed a killer recipe to make. I’m a wee bit competitive, so you know I’m going to bring my A game if there’s a prize on the line. Since I had just made my souper tasty (see what I did there? tee hee) white… [Continue Reading]

  • Our new neighbor, Bob, has the best photography backdrop. It’s old. It’s real. It’s alive with business. It’s down right cool. Now Bob and his sons might think we are complete nutso but we don’t care. Because when you can open up your side door, step¬†into another world and snaps some amazing pics… you just… [Continue Reading]

  • Right now it’s the season for making merry, and that includes all the fun treats to be had, right? Macy’s was so kind, and sent over a box full of fun. My kids got right to work, baking up some goodies in cute little shapes. A Mason jar packed with all you need to jump… [Continue Reading]

‘Tis The Season For Yummy Treats
  • I love Christmas music. Our whole family does. In fact, we start playing it the day after Halloween, and we really don’t play much of anything else until the day after Christmas. I asked my kids the other day which song was their favorite. Sadie’s was “Santa Baby” – the Madonna version. Davis loves “Rockin’… [Continue Reading]

  1. We visited Wisconsin Dells a little over a year ago for the first time. I felt the exact same way and still do about all waterparks. Great pics and sounds like you had a fun filled vacation!

  2. Sometimes for me it isn’t the water itself but the locker/bathroom/changing room facilities at water parks, they can be kind of scuzzy feeling!

Looks like you had a fun trip!

  3. yeah for chicago! we are in the suburbs and actually rarely go downtown. I’d feel the same way about the dells! glad you guys had a good time!

  4. I’d call only one episode of carsickness a success, for us it would be anyway! Looks like a really fun time. I too get the heebie jeebies at places like that. I don’t let my kids into restaurant play areas because our local one had lice! Ew!!!!! Here’s to a great week!!
