The Blob

I like to fancy myself a nail artiste, but the truth is that I’m too impatient (and too shaky handed) to come up with anything intricate.

That’s why I was excited when I came up with this blob mani. No specific lines to follow – that’s my kind of mani. I used neon colors since I’ve been admiring so many manicures in bright shades out there right now.

The trick to this was to start with a white base. That way all the colors appeared more opaque, and I only had to use one coat of everything. Then I just dabbed away with each individual shade (I started with yellow, then added orange, blue, and pink). I had no rhyme or reason for placing colors anywhere – and that’s exactly what I was hoping for!

I think this DIY spa treatment is also in order, after logging so many hours in the pool lately – my hands are kind of a mess!

Have you tried any fun manicures lately? Any tips to share with the rest of us? I’d love to see your pictures!

  • Most Mondays, you can find me at my children’s school, volunteering for kindergarten reading. There’s usually some instruction that goes along with whatever I’m to do that day. Something specific I’m supposed to do with the groups that come out into the hall with me. But the other day, the teacher couldn’t remember how to… [Continue Reading]

  • It’s Friday – hurrah! Re-entry into regular life after spring break is always tough, and it makes for a long week. Tammy is back from the Dominican Republic, and me? Well, I stayed here – but I did manage to have a little fun during our week off of school. And we’re both back with… [Continue Reading]

  • Whenever there’s a holiday, you can be sure we’re incorporating food into it in a big way. One of our morning favorites is a baked French toast casserole. It’s perfect for Easter brunch, or Christmas morning (or pretty much any day that you’re craving a delicious breakfast). Over the years, we’ve adapted and tweaked an… [Continue Reading]

  • I wish I could say I was different than the norm, but I’m not. While I realize most people try to fit in, I’ve spend a considerable amount of time trying to stand out. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not crazy. I don’t push the envelope too drastically. I mean I still buy random clothes from Target so… [Continue Reading]

    I’m Not Any Different
  • Every winter, I schedule a chemical peel at Dr. Prischmann’s office. I’ve mentioned before that I have melasma, and this helps to lighten some of the discoloration from that. Plus, I love having fresh and new skin once a year for so many reasons. Typically, I schedule my appointments for the winter months, because the… [Continue Reading]

Has anyone tried Shallack? I can’t grow nails and was wondering if that would help so I can polish them this cute way!!!

    • I haven’t tried it, but have always been curious to try because my nail polish comes off so quickly. I have heard that it’s REALLY hard to get off when you’re ready to get it off, and that it’s best to get it professionally done.

  4. Very neat (and easy) idea…it looks like modern art!
