Summer Detox – With a Giveaway!

July 30, 2012

For the past several years, I have watched in dismay as the dark spots on my face have grown larger and darker.

I tried just about every home remedy I could think of to lighten them, from creams to exfoliants, and everything in between – but it was all to no avail.

At the recommendation of a friend, I went to visit Dr. Jess Prischmann at Prischmann Facial Plastic Surgery, and was immediately glad I did. I’m not sure what took me so long to consult a physician – perhaps it’s because I operate under the delusion that I am still in my early 20s and don’t need help to keep my skin in shape. Or maybe it’s because as a mom you tend to make appointments for everybody else before yourself.

Whatever the case may be, I’m thrilled I went in, and you’re about to hear why.

During our initial consultation, Dr. Prischmann determined that I have melasma. I must say, it’s nice to have an official name to blame it on – now when I’m the dorky lady at the park in the giant hat I can say, “I’m not just over the top fancy – I’m protecting myself from worsening my MELASMA.” Though that doesn’t explain away the platform heels.

But I digress.

Dr. Prischmann was fantastic – I felt incredibly confident that she knew what she was doing, and that she’d do her best to take care of me. I loved when she said that the most expensive treatment is not always the best option, and that she wanted to find the treatment that made the most sense for my needs. And her skin is lovely, so you know she’s got to be doing something right!!;)

She told me she’s interested in preventing aging and looking your best at every age, and believes strongly in empowering her patients with knowledge so they can make informed decisions. She also stays up to date on all of the latest and greatest trends and procedures, but only advises them if they are proven safe and effective. Gotta love that! You’ve got to check out Dr Prischmann’s fascinating background.

I’m now on my way to treating my skin condition, with some brightening creams and masks to use until I can get a chemical peel this fall. Just the other day, I was treated to a hydrofacial with Jillian, the incredible aesthetician at Dr. Prischmann’s office. Regular exfoliation is the best way to keep your skin looking fresh and allow your skin care products to penetrate more deeply. A serum infusion plumps and hydrates, leaving you with a radiant glow. A hydrofacial combines the two, with results I guarantee you’ll love.

She started with some cleansing and steam, and some carrot butter goodness to take off the yucky stuff, followed by microdermabrasion, and ending with a serum infusion treatment. I definitely left feeling that glow afterward. I’d highly recommend booking an appointment with Jillian as soon as you can! A summer skin detox feels so great.

Each hydrofacial treatment is $150, and it’s worth every penny. But one lucky Wild Ruffle reader is going to save a lot of pennies, because Prischmann Facial Plastic Surgery is giving away a package of 4 hydrofacial treatments, for a total package worth $600!!

In addition, they’re giving a second lucky reader a product package worth just over $150! This package includes Innovative Skincare Extreme Protect SPF 30, an incredibly hydrating and luxurious sunscreen that nourishes and protects the skin, with microfine zinc oxide so it doesn’t leave a pasty look. It also has Extremozyme (TM), a patented combination of antioxidants that offer an extra layer of protection from the sun. Retail: $68 AND The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Face Gel, a water-based gel that contains antioxidants from aloe, lemon oil, oats, grapeseed, marigold, and polygonium. It works synergistically with sunscreen to fight free radical and UV damage (number one factor in aging), with multiple sources of antioxidants, not just one source of Vitamin C. Retail: $86

Feeling lucky? This contest is open now until Tues, Aug 7th at 11:59 PM CST. Two winners will be drawn via random.org and posted sometime on Saturday, August 11th. The winners MUST contact me by Wednesday, August 15th, or a new winner will be drawn in their place.

  1. I liked and commented! Would really appreciate the hydrofacials…as after my pregnancy I think I’m having the same skin issues and have always had challenges with my skin…it’s probably time to take care of myself in that aspect very soon!

  2. Ohmygoodness, I have never heard someone else say the word melasma. I learned it after my daughter was born seven years ago, and it’s hounded me ever since. Especially since mine makes me look like I have a 70’s mustache/half goatee combo going on. My mother once bought a facial hair remover and discreetly tried to get me use it; I had to explain that what she could see was actually the skin itself and not hair. (This story still kind of cracks me up – my mom was so distraught that she couldn’t ‘help’ me fix the problem… ) I would love the chance to have either the products or the hydrofacial. And perhaps cut back on my constant purchasing of concealer ; )

  3. I too have had some problems with sun/age spots. I started going to a dermatologist about 2 years ago and he started me on a regimen for about 4 months. After that did not work, we moved onto laser treatments. Although the few treatments I had did work, I have noticed them coming back this summer. I am ALWAYS looking for advice and other solutions, so thank you so much for posting this. I just might have to try her out! I liked her on FB, pinned her on pinterest, and would gladly take either one of the free giveaways! Thanks again, nice to find other woman who have the same problem!

  4. Cate, I’m thrilled to hear you are finding solutions to your skin problems! I would LOVE to win either prize! 🙂

  5. I have been extremely pleased by all treatments I’ve had with Jillian and Dr. Jess. I’d love to win either!

  6. I would love the opportunity to try any products or treatments-especially as a new Mom because my skin has changed! Winning either would be a treat! I’m already a fan on FB so this would be a perfect way to jump start me coming into the office! Can’t wait to work with Jillian to find new skin solutions

  7. I would LOVE to win either package…..
I won’t lie, I NEED it!!!!!! OMG, this growing old business is not fun.
Thanks!!!!! I too liked them on facebook!!!!
    Have a great day

  8. What a wonderful giveaway! The Hydrofacial treatments sounds fantastic-although I bet I would benefit from both. Oh and I’m with you on the “thinking I’m still in my 20’s” LOL!

  9. Cate,
You are so right…as a mom appointments are always made for others and I rarely get time for mine! I love facials and have not had for over 6 months…I know I know…my skin is quite upset at me. I hope to win this lovely giveaway…I would be sooo sooo soo excited!

  10. Thank you so much for the wonderful blog post, Wild Ruffle!
Dr. Prischmann and I are committed to helping individuals solve their skin issues by customizing the best treatments and products for each person and their specific needs.
I am really looking froward to treating one lucky winner to a series of hydrofacials. 🙂

    1. I have all the confidence in the world in both Dr. Jess Prischmann, and in the capable, caring hands of Jillian Anderson!..Wow! What a fabulous duo team, to help so many of us in the twin cities area! Thank you both! :o)

  11. I’d love the hydrofacial package as well. I once met Dr. Prischmann, who’s as impressive as she is lovely, and very down to earth. Jillian looks like a great associate for Dr. P. I’m sure her practice will be a big success.

  12. I would LOVE the hydrofacial treatments but really, either would be amazing!
I also posted to fb and liked their fb page. : )

  13. First off, how stunning is that doctor? Since I’m not in Minnesota, I would be thrilled to win the products! I have melasma too…and it gets worse with age and takes LESS sun exposure to get really bad.
I am the girl wearing a hat IN the pool. It is what it is.

  14. First, I want to say that I hate MELASMA, because 1) I have it. 2) it has too many letters in common with my name and as such … 3) it should be name something like: TASTOMS – that’s an acronym for The Awful Scurg That’s On My Skin.

Anyway, I would like to win ANYTHING! Off to like, share and pin!

  15. I would take either!! I am a sun lover but I now know the importance of sunscreen! I would love to reverse as much as I can!

  16. I would really love the hydrofacial treatments, but I would be happy with the products too. I am turning 60 this year and have really started seeing the age spots getting bigger and brighter. I don’t like them at all!! Thanks for the contest. Hopefully, I will be lucky 🙂

  17. Hmmmmm … I’d love either prize! Now that I’m over the 30-year hurdle, I pay much closer attention to my skin!

  18. I would be so happy with either but I love the idea of facials. I have a 2 year old and haeven’t done much for myself for the past 2 years and was just lamenting that I would love someone to take care of me even for an hour and how a facial would be just the thing.
