If there is one thing that stands out in the flavors of fall, it’s – pumpkin, of course!
I know I’m not alone in my love of this classic. And though I’ve tried eating/drinking it during other times of year, it’s just more delicious when the weather is crisp and the leaves are turning pretty shades of red and yellow.
We are headed to this spot again, and I thought – hmm, what treat to bring? Last year, my friend Heather brought this. A fall getaway definitely calls for something warm in my cup.
That’s when I discovered this.
Pumpkin spiced hot chocolate. With alcohol.
It seemed like the perfect recipe. Because I love my friends, and I want to be sure I’m only bringing the best to them, I decided I should make the recipe ahead of time and test it out myself.
And then, I realized – what this drink NEEDS to be even that much better…. is whipped cream. And so, I was forced to try a second cup (with a little pumpkin pie spice sprinkled on top for extra yumminess). Even better.
Here, for your drinking enjoyment, is the recipe.
Ingredients: 1/3 cup Kahlua Pumpkin Spice Liqueur
4 cups whole milk
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Pinch of salt
1 cup pumpkin puree
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
Optional toppings – whipped cream and a dash or two of pumpkin pie spice
Directions: Slowly heat 1 cup milk, the sugar, cocoa powder and salt in a medium saucepan. As the mixture warms, add in the remaining milk, stirring as you go, until sugar has dissolved. Make sure that the mixture doesn’t come to a boil. Whisk in the pumpkin puree and spice. Add the Kahlua and enjoy!
