The other day, I’m perusing Facebook (a dangerous habit, I know – it’s filled with the land mines of crazy people and their crazy thoughts at any given moment). Suddenly, a headline catches my eye: “Victoria Beckham kisses her daughter on the mouth and stirs up controversy!”
Really people? This is controversial?
We can’t kiss our kids on the mouth anymore?
I think that we are seriously reaching for controversial topics if we are labeling this one as such.
It’s not like we don’t have controversial subjects galore to talk about, if we are on the hunt for them. In case you’ve been living in a hole, racial tension is at an all time high, and people are shooting at each other without ceasing, all over the world.
White people are missing the fact that prejudices still exist (here’s a hint: they do), and America has become more divided than ever. There are tons of amazing police out there that are giving their everything to protect our ways of life, and yet the bad ones are getting all the press because the bad ones keep doing terrible things like shooting people for no apparent reason whatsoever.
There is no need to seek out controversy – it’s all around us! We live in a controversial world. And yet, for some unfathomable reason, we still search for more.
Well, you can take your controversial kid kisses and shove it. I’ll be over here loving on my children the best way I know how, soaking up their sweetness and innocence in a world that’s anything but those attributes. If that includes a peck on the lips, then so be it. Judge away, world. If anything, the unrest in this place we call home makes me want to love them up even more.
Victoria Beckham, I hope you continue to kiss those kiddos, regardless of what others may think of it. I’ll be rooting for you as I kiss my own.
