“Mom,” I hear whispered from across the room.
Bleary eyed, I blinked at him, my little guy who is not so little anymore.
“What do you need buddy?” I asked him.
“I need your help,” he answered.
At 1:30 in the morning, that’s never what you want to hear. Sighing to myself, I swung my legs around the bed and followed him down the hallway.
My nose determined the problem before I arrived in his room. It appeared the stomach bug had hit him, and taking a look at his bed, I could tell it had taken him by surprise.
The poor sweet guy had done his best to help me out before coming to get me, thinking only of others in his time of need. The toilet paper he’d chosen as his ‘mop’ hadn’t done much to fix the problem however, and actually kinda made it worse.
Minutes later, the entire contents of his bed were swirling around the washing machine, and I was rubbing his back, waiting for the next round.
Ah, the joys of being a mom. It means sleepless nights, and sometimes long days. Tears shed out of joy, out of frustration, and out of worry.
It means pulling yourself out of bed when it’s the last thing you want to do, whether it’s the middle of the night in times like these, or early in the morning getting your kiddos off to school while it’s still dark out.
There are sacrifices for sure. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
And happily, there are cute crochet sweaters that can distract people from seeing the dark circles under my eyes. Like this one, from the shop!
