There are so many emotions going through my brain as we celebrate another teenager in da house.
Joy; as I recall sweet times of her childhood tucked carefully away in my memories. Proud; her endless energy, thoughtfulness, silliness and good, tender heart. Sadness; for days past when I was too busy with my projects to just play. Yet excited; her future with be nothing short of adventure. And not- what will she be and will she make a difference? In fact, I know she will be an amazing adult someday. The people who challenge the world as a child, grow up to challenge the world, right? And this is Jillian Michaela Hiveley to a tee.
Furthermore, this middle child is the most loyal friend you could ever have. She can be thoughtful, loving and kind. In the same way – she is spunky, sassy and full of flare. At any rate, throughout all the trials and tribulations with my sweet girl, she is funny, clever and bright.
In opposition to my first born, Jilli is and always has been a handful. She learned to take the steps a few at a time while her older sister made sure each foot was safely on each step before conquering the next. Jillian is that child. She pushes every boundary put in front of her. I’m convinced “give them an inch, they take a mile” was made with her in mind. By the time she hit preschool, I had to face facts. The Parent of the Year award I believed I had coming was no longer. And I needed to parent her differently than I did the first. She’s special in ev.er.y.way. This was to be one of my greatest challenges to date.
After 13 years, I’m still plugging away on this one. I wish I could tell you we’ve gotten it all figured out. Yet, all the while, knowing God has something BIG planned for this girl. She decides she wants something and she does it – plain and simple. Which is fantastic when it’s directed toward something great. Not as wonderful when it’s not complying to your rules or requests. Nevertheless, this is who God made her to be. Strong and brave. Full of life and love.
Her dad and I cherish every moment we have with this spitfire child. We are committed to lead her down the right path, in other words – love her with all of our heart.
Birthdays are a major event in our house. Especially when it involves becoming a teenager!! This past weekend we celebrated in many different ways. First off: Friday family-only movie night with take-out Chinese food. Saturday: Volunteer work at Feed My Starving Children and a trip to the mall and late night hang-out with friends. Sunday: For her actual birthday she requested steak and potatoes for breakfast, then off to Church, LEGO Batman (btw not very good) and we finished the evening telling stories and watching her baby videos. <3 <3
Watch out for this girl, world. Jillian Micheala Hiveley is a teenager and she’s coming for you!
Happy 13th Birthday Jillibean!!
