Almost always, it feels like I’m losing it in more ways than one.
This time though it’s not me losing my mind or my focus or even losing my way. This time I’m losing something completely different. The solid 10 pounds I’ve packed on this winter. ew.
First off, I’m diving into a book a friend gave me over a year ago. Seems it takes awhile for things to sink into this brain of mine, so here I go. Finally. 100 Days of Real Food by Lisa Leake. If you haven’t heard of it – it’s a step by step educational book. Her book’s tag line: How we did it, what we learned, and 100 easy, wholesome recipes your family will love! In other words, it’s a big book of what is good for you and what isn’t and how to change your eating life for the better.
The ADHD running throughout my household coupled with the undesirable need to buy a bigger pair of pants has left me no other option at this point. I had to revamp the kitchen cupboards tout de suite.
Don’t get me wrong – this slow process has not been easy for anyone involved. For the most part, we are healthy eaters. But my family likes their junk food almost more than their freedom. Subsequently there has been some negative consequences for sneaking and/or hoarding food in the past few weeks. If all my ladies were little this would be much easier. But when you have two teens with their own money, it’s a whole different animal. I need to be smarter with my teaching. Influencing their individual decisions becomes the key versus the mere right and wrong instruction that worked before. Unfortunately, I hadn’t read this book all those years ago when I had way more control over the situation. We aren’t able to be super strict with all the rules but I’m giving it a-go to the best of our abilities.
Secondly, I’ve actually starting to run a few times. This is week #1. Yay me. My husband has been paying Lifetime for years to say I belong there. Ha. That’s a joke. I’ve gotten very skilled at coming up with excuses NOT to go. There’s always something more pressing on the table.
Soooo, it was about time I actually attended one of my favorite dance classes with my girl, Katie OR I ran my dog around the wonderful trails in my neighborhood. I chose the later, because well, it was easier and Wrigley needs to stretch his legs. No more excuses. I have to move my boot or it grows.
Shocker – Exercise and diet change. Aaaa yeah. Not ground breaking. Just real life stuff here. The good, the bad and the ugly.
So I told you about the bad and the ugly – now… the good is this new shirt we got in at the shop! It’ll be a staple in my spring/summer wardrobe rotation (along with the Jeffrey Campbell metallic loafers from shopbop.com -here’s a similar style). This classic blue linen button up is the perfect addition to the easy breezy days that are to come! Soon right? Happy first week of Spring everyone!!
