Two years ago I moved into a house with vast amounts of cupboards and drawers. Like crazy space. Compared to my old house, I was doubling if not tripling my storage opportunities.
I truly never thought it would be possible to fill each spot. And while I actually haven’t used each and every cupboard in every room, I have done a bang up job at trashing them.
How in the world did this happen? I can’t even say that without smirking. The truth is I am at peace when my house is clean. A dirty little secret: somedays I just stuff the junk into a drawer to make me feel like it’s clean. I’ll get to it later when I have more time. Regrettably, my method has become not only a bad habit for me, it’s now carried over to two of my three children.
Do as I say, not as I do, I cry. No one listens. Nor should they, I guess.
As a result, my oldest daughter – the calm, organized one – recently shared with me, she longs to have her friend’s organized house. This friend’s mom has a spot for everything. Things are where they should be. There is no searching for a pad of paper or a scissors when you need one. sigh. I long to have a house like that.
This week, I’m stepping up my adulting. I plan to tackle each cluttered space with a vengeance. Simple living will be my mantra as I unload all the ‘stuffed junk’ hiding places.
Something I can’t live without though is this outfit. It’s not going anywhere ~ except all over town. HA!
