I’ve loved dance as long as I can remember.
When I was 4, I have a clear memory of riding home from gymnastics class and asking my mom if she had signed me up for the next session. Her answer? “I think we’re going to give dance a try.”
Little did I know how much it would become a part of my life.
That four year old went on to dance until she was 22 years old. I traveled around the country thanks to the sport, including stops in Orlando where my team achieved our high school’s first national championship (and air time on ESPN!), and being part of the USO tour when I danced as an NFL cheerleader with the Minnesota Vikings. I made great friendships – people I still know and love today.
I’ve got dance on the brain this week, because it’s week one of tryouts for both my girls at their studio here in Prior Lake. Each day from 9-3, they learn choreography, acro, and work on technique. It’s hard work, and they’re VERY sore (especially because they come home and practice some more on their own) but they LOVE it.
I know I’ve said it before, but I love what dance is teaching them – it goes far beyond the stage for them. They’ve gained confidence and discovered the importance of teamwork… but also how to perform on their own and work hard to achieve goals.
And the greatest part? Dance is fun. It’s the world’s best stress reliever. Anyone can dance, no matter their experience level.
I dare you to blast some music and jump around the room without feeling happy afterward. It’s not possible.
Couldn’t you see yourself doing some serious dancing in this super cute black and white pouf dress? I definitely think it has ‘kick up your heels on the dance floor’ potential. I love them paired with our Good Works wrap bracelets and my shopbop.com shoes.
So get those dancing shoes on – or heck, do it barefoot – and give yourself a dose of happy today with some moves of your own. Turn up the volume on that stereo and get moving!
