I spent a few weeks praying for the Lord to give me a word for 2018. About a week into the new year, He gave it to me – brave.
It’s kind of a scary word. Brave. Why is He telling me I am going to need to be brave this year? Is something scary going to happen, and I’ll need to find my courage to face it?
And yet at the same time, it’s an exciting word. Brave. Facing fears. Powering through adversity. Being strong.
Thank goodness that, no matter what comes, good or bad, I’ve got my faith to get me through it all. The Bible is full of verses to turn to in times of trouble. Below are just a few examples from a quick search.
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. – Deuteronomy 31:6
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9
Then you will have success if you are careful to observe the decrees and laws that the Lord gave Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged. – 1 Chronicles 22:13
Rise up; this matter is in your hands. We will support you, so take courage and do it. – Ezra 10:4
Will your courage endure or your hands be strong in the day I deal with you? I the Lord have spoken, and I will do it. – Ezekiel 22:14
Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. – Psalm 27:14
But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” – Matthew 14:27
And my favorite: Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. – 1 Corinthians 16:13
I have a little health issue I’m going through right now. The outcome is unknown, and I should be freaking out. Normally, I would be freaking out. But for some reason, I feel utterly calm about it. I believe it’s because of my word, and the truths that I can stand upon.
I’m on my guard, but I’m standing firm in my faith. I’m courageous and strong. Brave. I am brave.
No matter what, I’ve got the Lord on my side.
