Play Time

When’s the last time you totally let go of everything and just had fun?

When Gussy sent out her weekly inspiration suggestion of “Spend the day playing,” it didn’t automatically resonate with me. Sure, I’d love to have a day of fun, but with three kids in the house, playing consists of having tea parties, building towers of blocks, and making truck noises. All great things – but not high on my own list of ways to have a good time.

And then my daughter asked if she could take pictures of me.

As a blogger, my picture gets taken all the time. So I did what I know how to do, and I smiled prettily for her, thinking I’d do a post on maxi dresses.

After one take, she said, “I want to take pictures of you having fun! Just spin, Mom! Spin!”

So I spun.

You know what?

It WAS pretty fun. These pictures are not my most flattering. Many of them break my cardinal rule – to only post pictures that are in focus. But to me, they’re great because my daughter helped me to find childlike joy again that afternoon.

So what’s bringing you joy today?

Don’t forget to click here to see how others spent a day playing.

  1. What a fabulous idea! You have certainly inspired me. I’m drowning in house projects right now, buit this is a way I can play every day – several times a day – and would probably do a lot to lower my stress level. I love the progression of your pictures, a very clever and enchanting idea.

  2. Seriously, if I had a rule about only posting photos that are in focus, I would never have another picture on my blog again lol. Sometimes blurries are the best ones – it’s like a pronouncement that life was too busy happening to worry about making the eyelashes sharp. Right? No? That’s just what I tell myself?

I think the pictures are lovely, though, really =) And I’m glad you were able to find a moment of pure joy, which is even lovelier.
