This week’s fun finds are dedicated to women making a difference. As a stay at home mom with a business on the side, I admire so many female role models who are pursuing their passions.
Top honor has to go to my mom, of course. Not only is she still working full time, but she’s recently dedicated herself to all things political and is fervent about making our country the greatest it can be. Plus, she’s amazingly fashionable – I learned all I know from her!
As one of only 20 female CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, Marissa Mayer made news when she announced that not only was she taking the top spot at Yahoo, but 3 months into her tenure she’d be giving birth to a bouncing baby boy. And after she was quoted as saying that she’d work through her 3 week maternity leave, sparks flew on the interwebs with people debating the merits of having children while pursuing a career at such a high level. Whatever your thoughts, she’s breaking ground, and you gotta admire that.

Another woman breaking down barriers? Heather over at Pigskin ‘N Pearls. A former news anchor, Heather has always loved football. And with 44% of the NFL fan base now comprised of females, she’s not the only girl cheering for her team on Sundays. Often highlighting the lighter side of the game, her blog breaks everything down so it’s easy to understand. She’s proof that Louboutins and a jersey are a fashion do.
There’s no time like the present to start making things happen, even if you’re only in middle school. If you’ve got a passion for fashion, like this fabulous girl, why wait to share it with the world? Plus, she’s so darn cute that you’ll be instantly hooked. Move over Tavi and Jane, here comes Carsten!
Talk about making a difference in the world – this sweet friend and her family felt called to adopt a child from Rwanda years ago, adding to their family of five. Their adoption journey has had its ups and downs, and is now taking them to the Congo later this month, when they’ll be bringing home their new daughter AND son. If you are a person who prays, keep them in mind – it’ll be a time of huge transition as they grow into being a family of seven, with two children who don’t speak the language and have never experienced the Minnesota chill.
What female role models do you admire? Who is making a difference in your world?
