Decking the Halls

We may not have any boughs of holly up, but we sure are feeling the fa la la la la around here.

Last year I shared some of my favorite holiday decorations we put up each year – we have so many with great memories and meaning attached (as, I’m sure, do you). That’s what I love about decorating for Christmas – the memories that come along with so many of the pieces we put up.

This year I thought I’d show you a bit if the transformation we go through here at Chez Mezyk. It’s out with the pumpkin and in with holiday cheer. Merry Christmas to us!

My family room has looked pretty much the same since we moved in 5 years ago (can it really be 5 years already?!), so I actually donated all the orange and teal pillows as soon as I swapped these out for seasonal ones. I’m excited to re-do the room – any suggestions for a color scheme?

And here’s the family room with some Christmas spirit!

I’ve showed you how this area typically looks (to see my much loved vintage suitcases, click here). But Old Saint Nick owns this spot for the month of December.

Our stockings get hung by the chimney with care.

And on the other side of our double sided fireplace (hurray! more places to decorate!), the mantle gets a holiday makeover.

I could go on and on with the photos – the whole house gets pretty jolly here. Do you go all out with holiday decorating?

  1. We do.
But know that I haven’t even started yet. Just not that into it yet!! This definitely helps get me in the spirit. Your home looks cozy and lovely!

  2. looks very outdated, I took the red out years ago and it feels fresh. love your wall of windows, lots of green and gold, but it is hard to update Christmas.

    1. Shary, my holiday decor may seem outdated to you, but that’s kind of the beauty of it for me. Each piece has a special meaning for me – the red wooden beads were on our tree when I was growing up, my grandfather carved the Santas and the snowman, the star on our tree was a purchase I made when my husband and I were engaged in anticipation of the trees we’d have together… The stories are fun to share with the kids, and I don’t know that I’ll be updating any time soon.:)
