DIY Gel Manicure

I rarely get manicures.

In fact, I hardly ever paint my nails these days (this tutorial may have been the last time I bothered!).

Between constant hand washing and making jewelry, every nail color chips right off. I’ve been told I should try a gel mani since they last so long, but I never seem to find the time to get to a salon and have it done.

That’s why I’m so excited to have found this product at Sally’s Beauty Supply – Gelous gel polish. Now I can achieve a gel mani right at home! It’s perfect timing too, because with a 9 day trip coming up in two days, I want this color to last.

I found instructions online, but had to experiment a bit. With all the layers the other sites told me to add, I ended up with smudgy nails, even after waiting hours for them to dry. Below you’ll find what worked for me. Be sure to start with a clean surface, free of lotions or oils.

Step 1) Apply Gelous Advanced Nail Gel Coat. Wait a couple minutes to allow to dry.

Step 2) Apply color of choice – I used Sephora by OPI Metro Chic. Wait a couple minutes to allow to dry.

Step 3) Apply another coat of Gelous polish, making sure to cover the tips so that you’re more chip resistant. Wait a couple minutes to allow to dry.

Step 4) Apply another coat of color. Wait a couple minutes to allow to dry.

Step 5) Apply top coat of choice (I used Nicole by OPI). Wait a couple minutes to allow to dry.

Have you tried an at-home gel mani yet?

  1. So for this kind of gel mani you don’t need a curing light? Let us know how long it lasts–I’d be interested in a nail polish that doesn’t require a curing light.

    1. Rachel, I’m currently on day 4 and it’s wearing off just a bit at the fingertips, but not a single chip thus far. Keep in mind that I’ve never painted my nails and had it last more than a day, with all I do with my hands. And NO curing light! I’m a fan so far!:)

  2. I am VERY curious to hear how long this lasts. I have the same problem…always in water so I basically have to paint my nails every second day!

  3. My husband and i ended up being quite relieved when Peter managed to complete his investigations
from the precious recommendations he made when using the web site.
It is now and again perplexing to simply find yourself giving away secrets and techniques
that many a number of people may have been making money
from. Therefore we grasp we have got the website owner
to be grateful to because of that. The most important explanations you’ve made, the easy website navigation, the relationships you can make it easier to promote – it is many astonishing, and it’s really making our son
in addition to our family consider that the situation is fun, and that is unbelievably essential.
Many thanks for the whole lot!
