We’re wild about the ever fabulous Nina Garcia, especially after Cate and I were lucky enough to get a chance to interview her after her tour around the new Verizon MOA destination store.

As we all know, social media and technology is tightly woven into everything in our lives these days. Fashion is no exception. Check out how this fashion guru keeps up with the ever-changing technology.    Nina Garcia

The Verizon destination store features interactive mobile lifestyle zones where guests can learn about and experience wireless technology in action – like Customize It, where we watched Nina customize her own phone case.  You too can visit the store and create your own – such cool stuff!

After strolling around the store with her, it was finally our time to chat. As a Project Runway addict, my heart was pounding!

Here are a few things we learned:

Some of her favorite apps include Lyst, Uber, Instagram frames/collages, Moda Operandi, Trendabl, The Cut on the Runway, Shazam, Whats App, plus all of her kids apps.

In her ‘me-time’ she likes to read, surf the web, Pinterest, twitter, relax with her husband after the boys are in bed. (She sounds like the rest of us, doesn’t she?)

Tammy: “Do you find it hard to keep up with all the new technological advances?”  Nina: “When I travel I get to spend a lot of time looking and surfing.  I used to feel overwhelmed.  But I think with social media being so inclusive, it sort of weeds out the ones that are important.  I don’t panic about it anymore because everyone will be talking about it and sooner or later I will know about it.  Eventually you will know about it {the best apps}.   I used to stress about not knowing the latest apps, but I’ve realized that the ones that are worth knowing are the ones that stick around.”

Cate:  “We love to write about where fashion meets compassion on our Wildruffle.com blog.  What are your favorite charitable organizations?”  Nina:  “I have a few, Sloan-Kettering, a Cancer organization, it is very close to my heart.  Happens to be in my family and I know it effects many people.  And another one is the Rita Hayworth Alzheimer’s Organization, again it is something that happens to be in my family and it effects others.”

Nina dishes that she runs her own Twitter, Pinterest boards and FB pages with only minimal help from her close assistant.  How does she do it all?  Marie Claire, Project Runway, her own blog & social media pages, husband and kids, travel, A-list events? She says she just knows when to let herself have a relaxing night in with her family. She admits she too needs quiet nights at home.

Her advice for upcoming designers? “Be yourself. Don’t try to be anyone else. You need to have your own voice in this world. At the same time there is a marriage between art and commerce, you need to learn the balance. Keep a consistency to your image throughout your growth years as a designer.”

Tammy: “Which Project Runway designer do you think is the most viable? Who has the longevity and staying-power to be around in this crazy fashion world the longest?”  Nina: “Christian Siriano. Definitely. He has the whole package.”WR & Nina Garcia

And because she is a mom like us, I love this family reminder article she wrote the other day.  You will too!  **HOLIDAY TIP from Nina**  “Baking a family holiday recipe: Make it a tradition with your children to bake a recipe that has been passed down through generations—cookies, a pie, a bread, etc. If your family does not have coveted recipe, start one yourself. (Who cares if you get it from foodnetwork.com? Nobody has to know.)” I love hearing that because that’s totally me!

Cate and I agreed that she was truly lovely, not only to the fashion bloggers interviewing her, but she was so gracious and kind to our daughters that got to meet her after the interview. It was such an honor to meet her – we have become dedicated Nina fans!

What we were wearing:  Nina – Kenzo tiger sweater, Givenchy boots and pants; Tammy – {a little punchy}leather poncho, wool turtleneck sweater (similar), H&M undertank, Free People tuxedo white denim (similar), black booties (similar); Cate – scarf and pants c/0 Ann Taylor, chambray button down – The Vintage Gypsy.

  1. This seemed odd tto me so Idecided too look further into the matter and write an
