Perseverance (AKA I Love MN Anyway)

I heart Minnesota.

I truly do.

But it’s been a rough January. For the first time since I was a kid, school was cancelled by the governor statewide on Monday because of dangerously low temps.

What’s dangerously low, you ask?

Try -30, with a windchill of -60.

Yeah, that’s 30 below zero.

Dangerous because your face might actually freeze off if you step outside in it. For real.

I’m a big fan of my home state, and I have no plans to leave it, but every year around this time I dream of doing so. Perhaps I could move to Nashville, where my cousin lives. It’s warmer, and the cost of living is significantly lower.

Texas sounds good. No state income tax, and warm year round.

Maybe Cali would be the right spot for me. I could live in a shoebox and spend most of my days playing along the shore.

And yet.

I love it here.

Despite the frozen tundra it appears to be this time of year.

Despite the struggles of my minivan as I slip and slide on the icy streets.

Despite the fact that my winter workout is mostly made up of shoveling.

Every year I dream of leaving… but every spring I’m proud to have made it through another tough season of cold. And I appreciate the heck out of every beautiful minute of the spring sun and the warmth it brings.

Plus, it gives me an excuse to buy more cute jackets.

  1. Lovely jacket! WOW, that is so cold! I lived in the midwest for five years when I was younger and could not handle the winters which were nothing compared to what you are experiencing! The snow is definitely pretty though. Stay warm and safe!

  2. Well those shoes are just fantastic!!! Loving all the brights that people are wearing to combat the cold. We had school cancelled for low temps too here in VA (11 degrees). That’s cold for us! 🙂

  3. Holy cow that is REALLY cold. I don’t think I could handle it – but on the plus side you look fabulous! Loving the red pumps! Found you via Shanna!

  4. Seriously, I feel the exact same way about Toronto!! It was -40 with the windchill here yesterday…just stupid.
I LOVE this jacket. Totally tried it on and regret talking myself out of it. It is perfect.

  5. I live in Chicago so I feel your pain!! Though how glorious is it once that weather starts inching over 50 degrees? It really makes you enjoy summer more and live it to the fullest….even if it does only last three months and the rest of the year is just the Tundra, haha. And on a sartorial note, i LOVE your heels. They definintely made the outfit!

  6. I’m shaking just thinking about that weather! Gah, In OK we think it’s cold if it is 7 degrees (which it was this week!) but what you are talking about is something else entirely! Stay warm! In these pictures you don’t look cold at all – you definitely know how to look good in cold weather. Love that jacket!

  7. I agree 100%! I love it here, but dream of moving somewhere warmer every January/February! But I could and will never move away. The winter makes us tougher! Plus, like you said, all the coats!

  8. I heard so much on the news about how cold it is in your country. I read it was dangerous to breathe in the air it’s that cold. Oh my! So true about having the opportunity to buy and wear amazing jackets though. I adore your jacket and shoes. I’ve never seen shoes like that worn in the snow before but if we had snow here I’d definitely do it.

  9. Well, if it’s any consolation, you make Minnesota look *good*
Love that jacket on you! Hope you’re keeping warm and it at least warms up to the positive degrees!

  10. I was able to make it back up north this year for Christmas and was smacked full on with how much I love the winter, even with the lack of sun, brown snow, and icy days. I’m living in the South now and 50-degree days just don’t feel right in January.
