The days since school has started for my kids are passing me by in a blur. Each one has been over scheduled, with things to do and places to be from 8 am to 8 pm. I’ve been going at a pace that is unsustainable, and it can only go like this for so long.
The truth is, I need to do a better job of taking care of myself. Of saying no to so much. And saying yes to quiet times. My family relies on me to be there for them, and I need to take care of myself so I can take good care of them.
That’s why I’m giving myself permission to chill.
Last night I ran a hot bath, grabbed my Nook and a glass of wine, and soaked for a half hour. Let me tell ya, it was good for my soul.
The plan for today is to get the kids ready for school, then volunteer there for a few hours. In the evening I have kids’ activities to get to. But in the afternoon? Nothing.
I am actually scheduling in a few hours to do nothing. Nada. I’m going to sit on my couch and read a book.
And I’m going to do my best not to feel guilty about it. We’ll see how that goes.
