I used to be a free spirit. I was completely spontaneous, flitting around from one thing to another as plans changed. Going with the flow never bothered me.
I didn’t stress much, I wasn’t organized (with my time or my life in general), and I was rarely on time. Relaxed was my middle name.
I’m not exactly a free spirit these days. In fact, there’s not much free spirit left in me at all. And while in some ways it’s a good thing. I’m now quite timely and usually early, and I’ve become much more organized. I’m now a planner – I like to know what’s going to happen, and at what time – and my life feels more doable because of it. And yet part of me misses the spontaneous girl I used to be.
This shirt is my little reminder to bring her out more often. To roll with it when life happens and it looks different than what I expected it to. I want to drop all the scheduled things we’re supposed to be doing in favor of a last minute night out whim – at least every once in awhile.
Between co-running a small business and parenting three busy kids, we are not at a stage of life that makes being spontaneous easy. But somewhere deep inside my free spirit is still there, just waiting to have a little fun.
