Not gonna lie, sometimes I wonder if we were meant to do this retail thing after all.
After a rough January, where not only sales are slow, but we were hit with unexpected expenses and some fairly sizable blows in other areas… well, let’s just say it made me think twice.
It’s funny how you can be left feeling so confident in every move you’re making one day, and the next it can all come tumbling down.
But every time I doubt the plan, and every time I wonder what the heck we are doing, I have to go back to what I know to be true: that our reason for doing this goes beyond just owning another little retail store.
I explained it a bit when we announced our big move last year (click here to see that post). We view Wild Ruffle as more of a mission field than anything else. We feel blessed to be able to love on people we’d never otherwise meet. To be a bright spot in their day. A bit of encouragement in what is currently a pretty gloomy world.
I’ve shared before how the Lord specifically opened the space we prayed for (click here to see more of that). And it’s because of his favor that our shop has grown the way it has.
Our faith is an integral part of everything we do. And while it might not be the wisest business practice, per se (we’re not supposed to offend anyone these days), we just can’t help ourselves. It’s who we are, and we don’t plan to change any time soon. If you ever wondered why it is that we do this, then you should read this.
There are going to be tough days. I pray the good ones will outweigh the bad. But if they don’t, I’ll continue looking heavenward to get me through.
The ever wise George Michael had it right when he said that you’ve gotta have faith.
And bad days are easier to get through when you’ve got a comfy new polka dotted dress to wear too, don’t you think?
